Interactive investor attracted £2.5bn of net inflows in the third quarter, compared with £1.9bn a year earlier, according to parent Aberdeen's trading update.
Across Aberdeen as a whole, the quarter recorded £0.3bn of net outflows. The retail platform's inflows therefore should not be described as group-wide net inflows. Aberdeen's figures account separately for other businesses and remove double-counted assets.
Group assets under management and administration stood at £578.9bn at September's end, against £579.4bn at June's end. The company said the figures are unaudited and subject to revision.
Apolifina analysis
The update illustrates why customer flows and asset totals need separate interpretation. Market movements and corporate transactions can change assets even when customers are taking money out.
For Aberdeen shareholders, the question is how each segment translates activity into sustainable earnings and capital generation. For retail investors choosing a platform, inflows do not establish that a service is cheaper, safer or suitable for them. Fees, functionality and service still require a separate assessment.
Uncertainty and risk
A quarterly flow figure is not profit and is not an investment-performance return. Client behaviour and markets can change. This article is independent reporting, not an endorsement or affiliate promotion of interactive investor or Aberdeen.
